Keisha Collins was one of the youngest artists to enter our North American Artist Showcase. At 17, she still lives at home in a small community on the Eastern coast of Newfoundland, Canada. Showing an interest in art from an early age, Keisha soon gained the support of her whole community and now works tirelessly to improve her skills and make them proud.
“My grandfather is my biggest influence because he taught me to never give up on my dreams and to fear nothing.”
Even at her young age, when it comes to her art, Keisha describes herself as stubborn.
“Once I get something in my head no one can change my thought.”
Keisha’s entry in the competition was this stunning rendering of “Harry Potter” from the international book and film series of that same name. Many portraits of famous characters, actors and musicians were submitted during the course of the Showcase, yet Keisha’s truly stood out. Her ability to bring Harry to life, with only coloured pencil and charcoals, and to render his eyes with such realism is to be absolutely admired.
“I am self taught and I learned what I know by simply practicing. The more you practice the better you will get at something.”
At 17, Keisha Collins has only just started her journey as an artist. But with an attitude like hers, we have no doubt she’ll do just fine. To support Keisha and purchase some of her art, click here.
