Do Some Dogs Look The Same As Their Owners? We Put It To The Photographic and Scientific Test

You know what they say about owners looking like their dogs?

Dog lover and photographer Gerrard Gethings put this theory to the test with his recent series called “doggelgängers”.

You might be surprised to learn that the idea that a bonded dog and their human share a resemblance has been tested from a scientific perspective. In fact, a recent study by Michael Roy, a psychologist at the University of California, tested this theory by going to three dog parks, taking photos of dogs and their owners separately, and then asking groups of participants to match them. He found that study participants were able to suss out the pairings with “reasonable accuracy.” This result and these types of investigations have since been repeated many times. In a test run by Sadahiko Nakajima from Kwansei Gakuin University in Japan, he found that 80% of participants could correctly pick the dog/owner pairs.
